Dr Sarah Powell is our Clinical Psychologist, and here she explains what World Mental Health Day is, and what help is out there for Deaf people suffering from mental health illnesses.
BSL Translation: ” Today is October 10th, World Mental Health Day.
Lots of people have experienced various different mental health issues, and that can affect their wellbeing.
It can make you become depressed, panicked or frightened, worried or stressed, upset or sad, so many different things.
We all experience mental health, everyday, for all different reasons. Sometimes it’s for a short time, other times it can last much longer.
World Mental Health Day shows that it’s alright for you all to suffer.
There are services out there to help you and other people who have mental health issues.
BSL Healthy Minds is one of them – we help Deaf people using sign language who have experienced panic, depression, worry and other different types of mental health issues.
The reasons may be linked to problems such as work stress, benefit difficulties, problems growing up, frightening experiences, and difficulties with coping and relaxing.
I’m here to help.
Today, please, don’t suffer on your own. If you feel emotional, see your friends and have a chat. Let people know. Ask for help through BSL Healthy Minds.
Look after yourself.
