Since the 31st July 2016, all NHS England and adult social care services must follow a new set of rules called the Accessible Information Standard. The Standard tells health professionals what they MUST do to improve communication and accessibility for people with a disability or sensory loss.
The rules affect doctors’ surgeries, hospitals, and all adult services which are paid for with government money. They are for inpatient and outpatient services, and for long-term care in nursing and care homes.
As well as patients who are deaf, the rules also help deaf people who may be parents or carers.
