In the last three years, the number of teenagers who’ve been admitted to hospital with an eating disorder has nearly doubled, says BBC Newsbeat.
Between 2010 and 2011, 959 young people were admitted. Between 2013 and 2014, that figure rose to 1,815.
Teenagers are feeling the pressure
Researchers say eating disorders are becoming a big problem because teenagers feel pressurised to look good. Everyday they go online and see images of celebrities and ‘perfect’ looking people, and they want to look the same. They change the way they eat and exercise to try and lose weight and look different.
Eating disorders are serious mental health conditions and need to be treated.
