DeafHope is SignHealth’s award winning specialist domestic abuse service that supports Deaf women and children who have, or are, experiencing domestic violence.
We are trying our hardest to spread the word about our service so more people know help is available and how to access it.
This weekend, one member of our team attended Deaf Diaspora to talk about the support we offer.
“The event proved to be really positive. 60-70 people turned up and showed a real interest in DeafHope. Before meeting me, they hadn’t realised there was a service for Deaf women and children who are experiencing domestic violence. I gave out our new leaflets/business cards with QR codes on them and explained what they were for. People were very intrigued to find there was a signed version of a leaflet available and many said they would have a look when they got home.”
In an effort to make our services completely accessible to Deaf people, we have translated all of our written material into BSL. Deaf people can now use their smartphones to scan ‘QR Codes’ on printed paper, then be redirected to our website and a BSL clip.”
Are you worried about domestic abuse, or think you may be in an abusive relationship? Please contact our team for information and support. We have BSL videos and contact information on our website, www.signhealth.org.uk/deafhope/
Unfortunately, due to a shortage of funding, we are only able to offer support to women and children living in London. Please help us continue our life saving work by leaving us a donation. Thank you.
