sign2sing is a hugely important event for SignHealth. It is our annual fundraising and deaf awareness week, running from Monday 2nd February to Sunday 8th.
We are asking for people to sing and sign a song (don’t worry, we’ll teach you how) and make a donation to continue our life changing work for Deaf people.
Your donations help us to continue Deaf counselling.
We have a specialist Deaf therapy service called BSL Healthy Minds where all of our therapists are Deaf (or hearing but sign fluently) so we never need to book interpreters and rely on three-way communication.
Our success rate with this service is 75%, compared to 44% nationally.
Donations allow us to fund our award-winning DeafHope project, the only specialised service for Deaf women and children who have suffered from domestic abuse.
Women can contact us via text or email (every other charity uses a phone line as their main point of contact) and receive help from us in safe places, and in BSL.
24 Hour Supported Living
We also provide 24 hour supported living homes for Deaf people who have mental health problems, and work with these people to learn basic life skills, to get them back into the community, even to learn BSL as they may have become completely isolated due to a lack of education or inclusion growing up.
sign2sing week encourages people across the world to sign and sing a song at the same time.
Before joining sign2sing, many people have no Deaf awareness, do not understand the importance of non-manual features (moving the face to show expression, a key part of communication for Deaf people), and haven’t considered the impact of social exclusion because of existing language barriers.
By signing up for sign2sing, you are giving Deaf people the same chance of a healthy future as hearing people. You are also learning a new language.
