My name is Richard Green, It will be my first time joining the london marathon to raise funds for the sign heath charity and i am very looking forward to the big challenge, i have been training since Jan and i realised it wasn’t going to be easy. i got a leg injury during training and went to have sports massage and it seems to have improved and i believe i can complete the london marathon and i am very grateful to have a lovely family, work colleagues and friends who are willing to support me during my running training and fundraising. Lots of reasons why i wanted to support and fundraise on behalf of sign health as I have personally faced a lot of barriers in trying to gain access to health information and health professionals and I know this is the same for a lot of Deaf people across the UK. Just getting a doctor’s appointment can involve a lot of effort and barriers because of communication difficulties and lack of awareness and understanding.
Interesting fact about me: I haven’t shaved my beard since October as I want take on this challenge at the same time as fundraising for sign health and have a fun experience for myself but I am looking forward to have shaving the beard off when I complete my 26.2 miles on 22nd April.
