Funded by the People’s Postcode Trust, a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, our Domestic Abuse service received £19,400 from the Trust to deliver a programme of Healthy Relationship workshops at Heathlands School, Hertfordshire.
The workshops aim to ensure Deaf children learn how to recognise healthy relationships, appropriate/inappropriate behaviours, bullying/cyber bullying, sexting and staying safe from emotional abuse/physical harm. This will empower children to avoid potentially abusive situations and reduces copying of abusive behaviour, breaking the cycle of violence.
In addition, longer term accessible psychological therapy by a specialist Deaf counsellor will be provided to Deaf children at Heathlands who have been identified by staff, parents, or who have come forward themselves in order to improve mental wellbeing, self-belief and self-esteem so that Deaf children will have a chance to realise their full potential.
