Deaf people are twice as likely as hearing people to suffer a mental health problem. It’s bad enough coping with the difficulties life brings without being isolated and unable to communicate too.
We have six care homes which offer supported living to Deaf people with long term mental health issues and complex needs. Tenants are helped to improve their self-esteem and to learn the skills they will need to become independent again.
Five of the houses are staffed 24 hours a day, and all of the support workers communicate in sign language. A sixth house is home to more independent tenants, and there are support staff here during the working day.
You can download a brochure which describes our homes in more detail.
“Specialists in their field told us they regarded the service as amongst the best in its field in the whole country.”
