Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt says basic mistakes in English hospitals are costing the NHS £2.5billion every year. We want to remind him that £30million of that is wasted because medical professionals are not communicating with Deaf people properly.
Jeremy Hunt says if less mistakes were made, more nurses could be employed, more training could be given, and more time could be spent looking after patients.
We say, if medical professionals had basic Deaf awareness training and provided accessible information, Deaf people would not have a reduced life expectancy.
