On Wednesday 27 November, SignHealth celebrated the premiere of five new short films that focus on issues related to domestic abuse. The event attracted a range of guests from the Deaf community, London Councils and voluntary organisations.
Funded by the Home Office, SignHealth was proud to showcase the first ever BSL domestic abuse films on the big screen. The short films will help raise awareness of different issues around domestic abuse including: Consent, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Forced Marriage, Sexting and Honour Based Abuse.
SignHealth’s Domestic Abuse Service Manager, Marie Vickers, commented at the premiere: “SignHealth is very pleased to unveil our films as part of a bigger event for our Deaf community. We are tremendously proud of them and we are very thankful to the Home Office for showing huge support for the work that we do.
“SignHealth offers the only Deaf-led domestic abuse service available within the UK and we are committed to expanding our work to further support Deaf survivors of domestic abuse and violence, and their children”.
In further recognition for the work SignHealth does, the Home Office has also provided funding for advocacy support for Deaf survivors and will increase the accessibility of information, advice and support for Deaf people.
The five short films will be released on Facebook on Thursday 28 November 2019 or you can now view the videos on our website.
