As you know, we have been working with the NHS to improve Deaf people’s access to healthcare.
SignHealth, the Deaf health charity, are helping the NHS create a new set of guidelines called the Information Standard (find out what the Information Standard is in BSL by clicking here). These guidelines tell medical professionals how to make information accessible to their patients.
For Deaf patients, that may include communication support such as a BSL interpreter or lip speaker. It will also include services such as text and email booking systems.
A draft Information Standard has now been launched, and the NHS want your opinions about it.
Medical professionals, charities, communication professionals and most importantly patients are invited to look at the draft and then give their suggestions on how to improve it.
There is an online questionnaire to fill in.
The consultation closes on the 9th November. Please get involved and help us to help the NHS become more accessible to Deaf people.
