What is Deaf Awareness Week? It is a week long D/deaf campaign. Organisations come together to raise awareness of D/deaf people’s needs and to promote deaf services.
The UK Council on Deafness has announced 2015’s theme as ‘Connect and Communicate‘, with an emphasis on effective communication and meaningful connections.
SignHealth is the Deaf Health Charity. We specialise in providing Deaf health services, including
- BSL Healthy Minds
- Young DeafHope
- 24 hour homes which offer supported living
- SignHealth International
We are the largest employer of Deaf people, and the only charity to provide domestic abuse support for Deaf women, in British Sign Language.
Did you know?
- Deaf women are twice as likely as hearing women to experience domestic abuse.
- It is estimated that 22 deaf women are at risk of domestic violence every day.
- After visiting the doctor, 35% of deaf people feel unclear about what was wrong with them, because of communication problems.
SignHealth are working hard to change this.
This Deaf Awareness Week we will be publishing videos of our staff talking about their work. Please share these videos as widely as you can. The more people that know about Deaf issues, the faster we can provide good access and equality.
