People have a stroke when the their blood supply is blocked to parts of their brain. Strokes are serious medical conditions that can change a person’s life forever; they may lose their speech, memory or not be able to walk or use their arms properly.
In the news this week, The Stroke Association has told people not to ignore the symptoms of a mini stroke because they can lead to other strokes. Mini strokes are often a warning sign that a bigger stroke is coming.
FAST – Signs you are having a Stroke or Mini Stroke
- Face – Has one side, or both sides of your face dropped? Is it difficult to smile?
- Arms – Is it difficult to lift your arms up?
- Speech – Is it difficult to speak or sign? Are words slurred?
- Time – Don’t wait, get help quickly!
The main difference between a stroke and a mini stroke is that a mini stroke happens much faster and finishes more quickly compared to a stroke. After-effects disappear much faster, normally in the next 24 hours.
