From 1st October it will be illegal to smoke in a car (or any other vehicle) if a person under the age of 18 is with you.
The law has been changed to protect babies, children and young people from the affects of secondhand smoke.
If caught smoking with a young person in the vehicle, both the driver (on a provisional or full driving licence) and smoker could be fined £50.
The law means people in England and Wales cannot smoke with a person under the age of 18 in the car even if the sunroof or windows are open, you have the air conditioning on or you are sat in the open doorway of a vehicle. However, you will not be fined if the car is a convertible and the roof is completely down.
