The Mental Health Foundation has announced this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week theme as ‘Mindfulness’.
What is Mindfulness?
- It’s a technique that helps you feel calm and relaxed.
- It’s not worrying about the future.
- It’s not worrying about the past.
- It’s about appreciating now. You do it by thinking about what’s happening in your life now.
Ideas for practising mindfulness
How do you do it?
Mindfulness is a technique that helps you feel calm. You can do it by yourself, or maybe with a therapist/counsellor.
It helps you notice the things around you, your emotions and how your body feels. When you stop worrying and think about the things around you, you can understand your mind and body better.
Some people will go on a walk for a few hours to practice (do) mindfulness. Other people will sit down and think for 5 minutes, and some people will do meditation or yoga.
If you are Deaf and have mental health problems – for example, depression, anxiety – we can help.
