'Hearing Times' support SignHealth

The 'Hearing Times' newspaper has chosen SignHealth as one of their charities for 2010.

This means subscribers can ask 'Hearing Times' to donate £1 to the charity.

Lauren Besant, from SignHealth, said, "We are extremely pleased the 'Hearing Times' has chosen to support us this year. They recognise the importance of health to deaf people and we look forward to working with them."

You can find out more about 'Hearing Times' on their website.

Do you have problems using your local doctor's surgery?

Redhouse Lane is making a film for GP surgery staff on how they can provide a better service to people with deafness and hearing loss, blindness and sight loss, or learning difficulties. The film is part of a training programme for surgery staff which will be sent out to surgeries all over the country by the NHS Practice Management Network.

We would like speak to people who have had difficulties communicating with receptionists, admin staff, GPs or practice nurses; difficulties accessing information supplied by the surgery; or difficulties accessing the building itself. We are particularly keen to speak to those with hearing loss or Deafness.

We are speaking to people both for research purposes and also to find people to appear in the film itself. We will not be naming any surgeries - we just want to speak to people about the type of problems they are experiencing.

In lieu of expenses, we are providing the following to those who are filmed:
£20 if they are filming a short one sentence section (this would involve them travelling to a location and filming time of about 1/2 hour)
£50 if we film a case study with them (this would involve filming with them at home for half a day).

Please contact Jo Bartlett as soon as possible, and before 10th December.
